The Meet a Keeper full-day program is a rare opportunity for high school students (Years 9–12) to explore what it really takes to work in a zoo and care for wild animals. Hosted by Taronga’s experienced education team, this immersive day gives students an inside look at careers in zookeeping, animal training, veterinary science, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.

Students will:

  • Learn about the skills and qualifications needed to work with animals

  • Observe animal enrichment and behaviour demonstrations

  • Explore animal husbandry and enclosure design

  • Understand the role of zoos in global conservation efforts

They’ll also hear directly from keepers and staff working in Taronga’s Wildlife Hospital, education and animal care teams – gaining real-world insights that align with subjects like Biology, Investigating Science, Work Education and Career Pathways.
