Through the Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS) program, all Little Athletics Associations aim to deliver an outstanding educational athletic program that provides a high quality experience to every participant.

The children involved will develop basic running, jumping and throwing skills by participating in highly active sessions with Australian Track & Field Coaches Association qualified coaches.

Our qualified coaches travel to schools and coach students in Sprints, Relays, Hurdles, Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump and High Jump. Which event, and the number of events to be coached is up to the school. LAPS is a flexible program so that we can tailor to every school’s needs! Coaches can visit the school for a one-off session or a program of regular sessions over many weeks!

The focus is on group participation, team morale and lots of fun activities.

FREE in-servicing of the teacher accompanying each group is available during the coaching session and a certificate will be issued.

At the end of the school coaching program, all students will receive a certificate of participation.

Further Infomation

At the Centre level we provide the best experience for athletes when we actively find ways for all athletes to participate and be included.

Bookings are essential and dates are dependent upon availability.

NOTE:

  • Please understand that we aim to conduct all session visits for those who request them, however we cannot always guarantee this.
  • Please understand that country schools may incur extra costs for sessions, depending on the distance from Adelaide’s CBD.
  • Please understand that Little Athletics SA are not an accredited Sporting Schools provider, and therefore, the Sporting Schools funding is not available for this program. If you would like athletics through Sporting Schools, please contact Athletics Australia.

Objectives

Sessions can focus on running, jumping or throwing, or even a combination of the three. It’s completely up to you! Some key ways you can make the most of our LAPS session are:

  • To teach specific events that teachers may not be comfortable with.
  • Weekly visits to deliver the curriculum’s compulsory athletics unit.
  • Preparation for athletic carnivals (i.e. school sports days, SAPSASA, SACPSSA).
  • Coaching assistance at Sports Days.
